As you prepare for senior pictures, here are a few tips in getting ready.
1. Plan several outfits to bring. Show your personality and interests.
2. Keep your clothing visually simple. solids vs. plaids or stripes, long sleeve vs. short, and long pants vs. sort pants...tend to work best for senior photos.
3. Give consideration to colors that look best on YOU, not on the mannequin. Match your eye color for one of your outfits. Unless you have very dark skin, avoid pure white or pure black clothing, try instead a cream color, a pastel, or, deeper jewel tones.
4. Don't worry about blemishes, at The Imagery we retouch all images that you order from, and we have touch-up makeup available.
5. Clip your nails, and have clear nails or French manicure vs. any bright colors that may not go with every outfit, or may date the photo.
6. Bring your shoes to match the outfit, or, go with bare feet if appropriate. If you have cool shoes, we do a few shots to feature them in the photograph, otherwise your feet typically don't show. Bring dark shoes vs. light or pure white shoes, as we don't want them to distract from the face.
7. Bring someone with you, they are welcome to help you be relaxed and smiling! We hope you like dogs, cause our Goldendoodle, "Pixel", loves to help you smile too!
8. Apply makeup as you would normally. Every session includes a free makeup touch-up upon request. If you need extra assistance with makeup, let us know, and we can set up extra time in the beginning to help you out with our selection of makeup at the studio. We use pure products that are non-allergenic, and certified Vegan and Gluten free.
9. Go with practiced hair styles. If getting your hair trimmed, plan on the cut 1-2 weeks prior to your session, not the day of! Oh, and guys, don't wear your hats to your session, bring your hat separately, and we'll put it on during the last outfit (to avoid hat-head).
10. A fresh shave for guys is recommended, and mustaches or beards should be neatly trimmed.
11. When packing outfits, girls consider under-garments that will fit each outfit. Avoid bra straps and tan lines.
12. Need outfit ideas? Use this list to make your OWN list, and start packing up each outfit with all accessories, ready to go. Here are some things to stir your imagination:
* something that mom picks out... don't stress on EVERY outfit, give mom a chance to pick a favorite...
* something that YOU pick out...obviously, but by 'your pick' we mean something that may break all of the above rules, but you feel truly comfortable in, a "fav" outfit if you will.
* something from an activity that you love, or a meaningful experience in high school that you want to remember forever.
* something really dressy. This is the time when you are able to bring back your home-coming dress and show it off and record it's greatness forever...
* something super casual... remember, it's about capturing your personality, don't be afraid to have something super comfy that you would wear every day!
* something "alter-ego" fun or fantasy... some of our best pictures have been done in outfits that suggest a character of a film, book, game or tv show that the senior loves.
* something out of season... we LOVE sweaters and fall clothes, because they are often layered and full of texture, both things that make a portrait/wardrobe look great.
